A roll of BOPP Capacitor Film may remain in inventory longer than originally planned when a capacitor program changes schedule. Purchasing then needs a clear answer: can the material be released, should it be retested, or is more information required? The date on the label is important, but it cannot replace the supplier's storage guidance and the condition of the actual roll.
Dafu's capacitor range in Dafu's engineering film range includes several grade-specific thickness and temperature options. The current product information and supplied brochure describe material selection and reference properties, but do not establish a universal calendar shelf life for all stored rolls. Do not create a six-month or twelve-month rule from that absence, and do not interpret an unspecified limit as an unlimited storage guarantee.
Ask what the supplier's date represents
Confirm whether the recorded date refers to film production, slitting, packing or shipment. Those events are not necessarily identical. Keep the original lot identification and associated documents. A warehouse receipt date can be useful operationally, but it should not silently replace the manufacturing information needed to discuss material history with the supplier.
If a supplier provides a recommended storage period or retest date, ask what conditions and product form it covers. Preserve the original wording and basis. A rule for sealed packaging may not cover a partially used roll that has been opened and repacked several times. The appropriate enquiry identifies those differences rather than asking whether an unspecified old roll is still good.
Reconstruct the exposure history
Review where the material was stored and whether relevant environmental records are available. Identify transport incidents, packaging damage and changes of location. Distinguish a documented controlled condition from an assumed one. Where records are missing, mark that uncertainty so the release decision does not rely on conditions nobody can confirm.
Also record opening and partial-use history. An unopened roll and a remnant from a previous campaign may have different handling exposure even if their labels show the same date. Note how the remaining web was protected and whether its identification stayed intact. These facts help determine which concerns to investigate without asserting that every opened roll has deteriorated.
Inspect packaging and roll condition
Check the protective packaging and visible roll condition using the factory's incoming-material practice. Record damage, contamination or other observations that require further review. An external inspection can identify reasons to hold a roll, but a clean appearance cannot establish every relevant electrical or surface property. Keep the limits of visual evidence clear.
Do not remove or handle material unnecessarily during the investigation. Agree how samples will be obtained and how the remaining roll will be protected. Retain traceability between the sample and roll location. A specimen taken from an exposed outer section may answer a different question from a specimen intended to represent the usable interior material.
Define the retest from the release question
Retesting should address the requirements that need confirmation for the intended next operation. Review the agreed purchasing specification, process needs and the observed storage concerns. The appropriate plan may include material, surface or electrical checks, but the public brochure does not prescribe a universal retest package. Obtain supplier and quality-team agreement on representative sampling and acceptance.
Separate a trial intended to investigate a concern from a formal release test. Record the method, conditions and acceptance criteria before interpreting results. A favorable result from one convenient check should not close unrelated open requirements. Equally, do not demand tests simply because they appear on a long generic checklist if they do not answer the actual disposition question.
Keep the grade and gauge attached
Dafu's overall product range is 2–8 µm, while its higher-temperature listed options have narrower gauge ranges. These selection details remain relevant after storage. A retained sample from another grade cannot establish the condition of the roll being released. Match lot, grade, gauge and supply format when requesting supporting information or comparing a stored specimen with a current reference.
Reference values from the brochure's laboratory sample should also keep their stated scope. They are not automatically guaranteed limits for every roll or thickness. Use the agreed order specification and applicable supplier documentation to define acceptance. This prevents a stored roll from being incorrectly rejected or accepted against a number that was never its purchasing requirement.
Consider the next conversion stage
A capacitor-film roll may be awaiting metallization, slitting or another specified operation. Identify that next stage when discussing release. A small production trial can provide useful process evidence where it is appropriate and authorized, but it should have a defined purpose. Successful feeding alone cannot establish every electrical requirement of the final capacitor.
If a trial shows an issue, retain material and process records before assigning the cause to age. Equipment setup, the supplied roll and storage history all need evidence. A newer comparison roll should meet the same specification and run under comparable conditions. Otherwise, the investigation can confuse a grade or process change with a storage effect.
Make the disposition traceable
Record whether the roll is released, held for information, limited to an agreed use or rejected under the applicable quality process. Identify the evidence and responsible decision behind that status. A retest should not silently reset the production date or create an unsupported new shelf life. Any extension needs a defined basis and scope agreed by the relevant parties.
Send Dafu the roll identification, production and opening dates, storage records and intended next operation. Request applicable storage guidance and a suitable evaluation route for the actual concern. This gives purchasing a practical way to manage stored capacitor film while preserving the difference between elapsed time, observed condition and demonstrated conformity to the required specification.
